I'm no badass, but I'm a little better than I was.

My adventures in photography began this past Friday on Balboa Island. Our friend Nate and his lovable girlfriend came down to help a sister out with her photography skills (that sister is me).

I went from sucking completely to sucking just minorly. Look! My first acceptable flower shots:

And then Nate taught my how to focus in on something while getting that cool funky blurry stuff in the background:

Nate showed me how to take shots from different angles (not recommended in jeans that show crack):

while we wandered around Balboa for a bit, before heading towards the ferry.

Snapping away like big dorks.

Ferry fun:

The other side, with Balboa Fun Zone on it, was so colorful. It was perfect for amateur hour.

Ferris wheel fun:

Lesson learned: Balboa fun zone,

is not as fun as Bal(l) Fun.

More random fun:

This is what a professional looks like:

and then there's me.

I had more fun that afternoon than I've had in a while. Yay for getting some good usage out of my $700 camera/lens investment. [insert a Mr. FGD cringe!]

I think these are badass! They are a helluva lot better than the photos of some other people we know with our camera.... ;)

We shall see if my photography class helps my pics, too. I start next week!

I think these totally kick ass! Being able to blur the background was precisely why I wanted my DSLR in the first place :) Hee.

I was really hoping the pictures would suck so that you would join my "I wasted money on a good camera club" but they don't. They are really good! Perhaps I should get the same lens and we can go shooting together?! Squeee!! Not.

Great photos. Someday when I graduate to having a fancy camera (er, investment) I hop you will show me the cool blurry background trick.

I hate that these pictures make me want to join the money pit we all know as the DSLR.

Very cool! Amazing how a few lessons can totally improve pictures. At least, that's what I'm finding with my class. :)
