Wish I Was There

I have a favorite place on earth.

Not someplace I'd like to live, but someplace I'd like to visit once a year. If I'm greedy, maybe twice a year.

I know this isn't possible, and that just makes it all so much more tempting and extraordinary.

I want everyone I like to go there at some point in their life.

I want everyone I dislike to never know it exists, and better yet, never be able to afford to go there.

I don't think there are many places on earth where you can step outside your own front door and jump into crystal clear Tiffany blue water.

I don't think there are many places on earth where you can sit on your front patio and watch a sting ray float by.

I don't think there are many places on earth where you can close your eyes, feel the sun on your face, and believe that this, right in front of you, is simple, unadulterated, bliss.

This is my heaven.

This is my bliss.

Wish I Was There.

Party at Palihouse

This weekend we celebrated brother-in-law FGD's 35th birthday at PALIHOUSE in West Hollywood.

I was expecting an intimate gathering, but nothing brother-in-law FGD and his partner Monkey Trouble do is ever less than chic and spectacular.

Allow me to preface the rest of this post by stating that I am a terrible photographer. I don't even like using the word photographer. I prefer blurry-image-taker. I took a few bad pictures of the evening, but looking through them, they all suck. (The above photos are courtesy of the LA Times. Enjoy them. Things are about to go downhill.)

The highlights:

Me trying to oh-so-nonchalantly take a picture of Tiffany Thiessen's bad ass black stilettos.

Ridiculously horrible picture of her shoes, but nice floor, don't you think?

Next, me trying to get a picture of the funky decor inside the hotel.

Looks more like grandma's house though, doesn't it?

Me trying to subtly get some shots of all of the pretty gays at the party.

Oh wait, those pictures don't exist because I accidentally deleted them when downloading them to the computer.

Brother-in-law FGD about to blow out the candles on his cake.

Some pieces of cake before being devoured by me, drunky FGD, at this point.

The cause of me becoming drunky FGD:

Followed by my ubiquitous klassy double-fisting shot.

Followed by Mr. FGD's I've-got-to-drive-drunky FGD-back-to-south-OC-and-it's-late picker upper.

I was hoping brother-in-law Monkey Trouble, who actually takes fantastic photographs, would send me a link to his photos (not that I would ever pass them off as my own; who would believe that anyway?). However, until then, how about another bad picture?

Sorry birthday boy, you are so much hotter than my pictures allow.

But you sure do have some pretty friends.

This weekend, sister-in-law FGD completed her first triathlon in Massachusetts.

Damn, she is ripped. (I haven't figured out yet why no one mistakes her and I for being related?)

This weekend, on the other side of the country, I decided maybe I should consider working out again. Fortunately, Team FGD was on board to help!

Don't worry, this isn't turning into a get fit blog. I'll be back to my regular workout of turning the pages of US Weekly in no time.

A Day at the Fair

The Orange County Fair rolled into town this past weekend. I'm not really a big fair person. It seems to bring out a lot of 909ers. But, today was Mr. FGD's birthday, and he really wanted to go, and brothers-in-law FGD were coming down, so I went along for the ride.

On one condition.

We go to the Maloof Money Cup skateboarding competition so I could watch my boyfriend skate!

For some reason, Mr. FGD does not seemed threatened by my boyfriend, so he acquiesced to my request.

Mr. FGD and I watched the finals of the Vert competition while we waited for brothers-in-law FGDs to make it down from LA. I loved it! Shaun the "Flying Tomato" White is my favorite Vert skater (by default because he's the only one I know by name) and even though he didn't win the Vert competition, I thought he was on fire, just like his hair.

(that's him in the air)

(still him in the air, on the right by the lights)

It took me awhile to remember that today's technology allows cameras to zoom-in on things.

In between the Vert final and the Street Competition final in which my boyfriend was competing, we walked around the fair. Mr. FGD and brothers-in-law FGD went on some rides, while I ate my way through the fair.

After walking around for awhile, we returned to the skate competition to watch the finals of the Street Competition. Although my boyfriend didn't win, he had my heart aflutter the whole time.

(that's my BF sitting down in the white t-shirt on the right)

My BF didn't come in first today, but I think just knowing I was there, cheering him on, was a win in itself for him.

Before leaving for the night, we visited with the animals at the fair. I always feel bad for the animals. I don't think their natural habitat is in an urban parking lot.

However, to my surprise, this particular sheep (we named Marley) was quite urban.

(Lenny Kravitz, are you missing your sheep?)

(Sister FGD - I think this is Mable and Mildred 2008)

(Pretty in Pink)

(this one was clearly stoned.)

(I loved this baby)

(this was the Jewish goat)

and as brother-in-law FGD so aptly put, these particular ones made our bath mat.

Until next year, oh mighty fair!

Happy Birthday Mr. FGD!

Happiest birthday wishes to my favorite sugar daddy. May this year be even better than the last!
